This place was recommended to me by a friend as a beautifully located, quiet but lovely hotel, with great facilities.
We've just arrived today and are blown away by the lovely room, which is beautifully equipped and has a balcony in the sun overlooking Buckfast Abbey.
Staff couldn't have been more helpful, helping with our luggage, as I have a health condition and responding positively to every request (e.g. more milk, radiator controls and shower mat.
We ate tonight in the restaurant and the food was excellent, even though the menu is rather limited.
We're really grateful for the recommendation and totally endorse it. Looking forward to a lovely week.

Beautiful setting right by the Abbey. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Service a bit stiff and abrupt.

This place really is such a find I almost don't want to share it. Fabulous location in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey, very clean, peaceful, good breakfast included. I paid £91/night and the accommodation is comparable with London hotels that charge double that amount.
It would be nice to be able to have bar snacks or sandwiches available as an alternative to the restaurant dinner menu. The Abbey restaurant (The Grange) has a few sandwiches but also tends to focus on hot meals throughout the day.

Great location. We stayed in room 115, which has a balcony with a view of Buckfast Abbey. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. There is an extractor fan from the kitchen below the room, which was running constantly and sadly affected our enjoyment of the room, particularly at night. The restaurant was also a bit disappointing. The tables were sticky and the menu very limited for vegetarians. The breakfast was also quite limited, and we felt not really value for money.

Booked a last minute break with our dog. It was our first time away with him and the hotel proved to be the perfect accomodation. The room was immaculate and there were plenty of areas for dog walking. Peaceful and beautiful, will definately book again
We had a truly delightful stay from.26th to 28th June 2025. Everything was done to provide comfort and enjoyment. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommended.

Perfectly located within the Abbey grounds and right on the edge of Dartmoor, offering easy access to both Paignton and Torquay. The area is beautifully peaceful, surrounded by nature with plenty of charming walking paths to explore.

what a fabulous hotel staff are so lovely .
Unfortunately when I stayed I took my very expensive pillow and I left it behind when I left but no need to worry I got in touch with the lovely Chloe and within 24 hour my pillow had travelled 3 hours back in the post I wish to say a very big thank you 😊

I was taken to one of my favourite locations, Buckfast Abbey as a treat.
Very serene and beautiful as always
We opted to stay at Northgate House as reviews sounded wonderful.
Had deluxe room with balcony very nice. Unfortunately over the kitchen , sound of the fans from downstairs were a bit off putting. !
We couldn't open the patio door overnight as so windy there was no other window in the bedroom so opened the bathroom window . Which was OK until kitchen staff arrived early morning, quite noisy.
Bed large , little on the firm side as we're the pillows. But we're replaced by softer ones on request.
Evening meal on first night was delicious , well presented and served by a gem of lady who was very welcoming and attentive. A real asset to the hotel.
Breakfast sadly let it down for us . It was as if breakfast was over at 9am and the young lady was intent on packing away rather than serving .
We had no direction as to what we needed to help ourselves to or what was available to us. Coffee was tepid. We asked for it to be heated and recieved another luke warm coffee. We eventually were given a freshly made coffee , we had to ask for toast to go with the cooked breakfast . All in all put us off for the next morning so ate elsewhere.

This is really a rather nice hotel, nice friendly meet and greeting reception and the rooms were amongst some of the cleanest I've ever stayed in on my various travels around the planet.

If you fancy a quick run or a walk then come out of the hotel head up the hill to the top turn left and head for buckfastleigh and then complete the triangle back to the hotel for some lovely views of the countryside and the abbey.

What an incredible find, located right beside Buckfast Abbey.

Spacious rooms, well furnished and my mother had use if a well adapted accessible room.
The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. The food, especially the evening menu, is absolutely delicious and highly recommended. It is very reasonably priced with generous portions if you have been put walking on Dartmoor which is very near by.

The restaurant is a little austere however we hadn't realised this was a retreat with a number of clergy also visiting. If you are not religious, as there are no expectations or pressures - although my sister and I attended a beautifully sung Mass (she is Catholic and I am not).

Would we return- absolutely.

Peaceful quiet location next to the Abbey. Lovely grounds in the Abbey to walk round. Evening meals were freshly cooked to perfection. Breakfast ranged from full english to cereal, toast, fresh fruit. Enough choice for everyone. Rooms spotless and modern. Staff very helpful and friendly. Will be booking again.

A small (33 bedrooms) modern hotel set in a beautiful location close to Buckfast Abbey. We were in a regular room which was well appointed and comfortable, but above all, it was very quiet. Breakfast included just about everything you could wish for from vegan to carnivore. The dinner menu was relatively limited but like breakfast suited all tastes. However, all the food was clearly freshly cooked and tasted excellent. The outstanding feature of our three day stay was the excellent and attentive service; particularly from one young lady who doubled as waitress/barmaid. She made our stay all the more memorable. This hotel is definitely recommended.
